MEETING (Monday, 03/30/20)

Good afternoon, everyone! Tonight we have a one-of-a-kind meeting, where we will get to watch Mason and George perform a Flag Retiring Ceremony. This is a great opportunity to pay respect for what symbolises our country and what we believe. Though this is not a meeting with instructions or merit badges we highly encourage all of you to attend, to sit down and think about this country and what is happening inside its borders.

9626 Committee/ Parent Meeting

Merit Badge Google Form (Please Read)

Good afternoon, all- because of the necessity that you indicate which merit badges you want to focus on in the upcoming weeks, we have made an easier way to communicate this.
Troy (Webmaster) has uploaded a Google Form sheet on the Scouting 626 website that enables all of you to submit your requests for the merit badge options in less than a minute. It is located at the top of the home page.

Scouting Continues: Virtual Meetings Information!

Good evening, all. As you might have heard, in accordance to the WHO and CDC’s recommendations, the BSA has cancelled all in-person meetings, campouts and gatherings for the next couple weeks. So, in order to keep our troop running , we are going to have virtual meetings, run at the same time as our regular meetings: Monday, 7:00-8:00 PM. This is a new concept for everyone involved, so it’s good to have patience while we all try to figure out how this is going to work.

To get ourselves familiar with the software and how things are going to be run in virtual meetings, we will be hosting a preliminary “meeting” on Sunday evening (7:00 PM). At that time everyone will be able to figure out how to cross between chat rooms, turn on and off their microphones and cameras, and just get a good hold on how meetings will be run on Monday. We encourage everyone to attend the session on Sunday, because it would mean a lot less confusion when the real meeting takes place.

Mr. Blincow, Bailey or Mrs. Rafter will send a link in the next couple of days which will take all of you to the e-meeting, by which time we will have decided which platform we will be using and which app you should download onto your devices.

If any of you have questions please don’t hesitate to reply to this email or contact any adult necessary.

We have been taken as much by surprise as all of you, but again, the best thing to do is to take it one step at a time, be thrifty and to be patient. We hope you all have a good rest of your day-

Scouting continues at 626!

Good evening Scouts and families, 
As you're no doubt aware, many activities have been postponed or cancelled due to  the current situation with Covid-19 . Following advice from the MN Dept of Health , the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and mirroring many local cities and school districts, Northern Star Scouting has decided to suspend in person Troop Activities until further notice. 

But scouting will continue!  The Senior Patrol Leaders and Scoutmasters and their assistants are discussing ways to hold virtual troop meetings and continue to work on scouting, advancement, and foster Scout Spirit! 

I feel it's important to point out we're not panicking, nor should you. The guidance we're using is straight from the CDC and MN Dept of Health. Practicing social distancing is one thing we can ALL do right now. Limiting group gatherings, distance yourself from others, cover your cough, wash your hands, and stay home if you're sick. 

Remember the points of the Scout Law and Oath as we're entering this (unfortunately) historic time in our Nation and world. Find ways for you and your family to be Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. What does it truly mean to "help other people at all times"? Talk with your Scouts and families about what they're watching unfold, and make sure they understand how different communities than theirs might be/are affected. 

Continue to monitor your emails for further communication from The SPLs or Troop Leadership. If your family becomes ill, or needs help with anything - please don't hesitate to reach out with what you need, and we'll try to make arrangements to get that help to you. Urban Adventure Campout

Good Morning Parents and Scouters,

March 27 Adventure Race information.
First we have a change of program. We will be running the race as a day Race.

Race information:
Begins March 28th at 0800
Ends March 28th at 5pm
Adjusted Cost: $25.
7 dollars for adventure pass, 10 back to scouts for them to purchase lunch, and 8 dollars for cracker barrel and end of adventure hot chocolate
We will meet at 0800 at the new football stadium on Snelling. At Snelling and 94. We will have our scout flags in place for the race location and end.
The race will end at the same place it began at 5pm


It is imperative you sign up.
Once I have a list of signups be able to take down the teams. If you have not identified a team, that is ok. Lots of scouts do not have a team yet. If you are not in a team at the time of the race you will be assigned a team. Everyone will be in a team. This is a team race.

It is imperative you sign up ASAP.

Gear you will need for the Race:
You will need good shoos, Your Class “A”s, $25 in 2-$10 and one $5 increments, and a rain coat in a backpack.
- In your back pack, I recommend you also bring gloves, a hat, Water, and a first aid kit.

Again it is imperative you sign up, so we can get organized.

Urban Adventure Shadows Needed

Good afternoon Scouter adults

We need volunteers to act as “SHADOWS” for our scouts this March 28th.

What is a shadow? A shadow is a part of the scout team that runs the race with the scouts. You are the link that sends and receives information to and from the race masters so the scout team can run a safe and fast race.

Safety is our first concern, so we will start with a requirement that any volunteer must have Youth Protection training within the last two years. We will be hosting a training session on March 23rd at St O's if you need it
You can print that form from scout book. We will also have a special safety briefing to be sure all shadows have the goals and information of the troop so they can help ensure a successful run.

Mtg cancelled on 3/16/20

Hello Everyone
The meeting next week will be cancelled due to the high number of scouts and leaders that will be out next week for spring break.
We look forward to seeing everyone on March 23 for our regular meeting.
We are also having Youth protection training on March 23 for all parents and Leaders. It will be needed for any adults wanting to race as chaperones

We will have an updated route for the URBAN ADVENTURE on the 28th. This will be a day adventure only.

We look forward to seeing everyone after a little R & R

Correction for Fitness Reqirements

Good afternoon, all- there is a correction to be made regarding next meeting’s fitness requirements. First year’s are doing requirements for rank advancement, not the merit badge; although others could get the requirements done for the merit badge if they so wish to. MEETING (Monday, March 9th)

Good morning, all! This next meeting is a bit more fun and games (quite literally) as a lot of Scouts and Leaders are gone for Spring Break in the month of March. For those of you who are here, we are having a game meeting. Everyone feel free to bring all your most awesome games (Magic, Whoonu, Monopoly, etc.) for an awesome time. We will also try to go outside to play some tag to make up for what we didn’t do last week.

Mrs. Rafter has also secured the gym during the meeting for all first years (and anyone else who needs it) to get their initial or end requirements done for Personal Fitness Merit Madge. We place special emphasis on first years to be there, as the merit badge does take a while and this is the perfect opportunity to get a good start on it.

We hope all of you can be there to play some games and test your stamina-

MEETING (03/02/20)

Good morning, all! Tonight’s meeting is a very important one, as Mrs. Hashmi will be explaining Tomahawk Scout Camp and their list of activities. If any of you plan to go (we hope all of you because that camp is awesome) Mrs. Hashmi will be explaining the works at the meeting. Mr. Blincow will also be conducting an activity that focuses on First-Aid; it is spring now, we will be going outside more often. We have also realised that we’ve just been held up sitting in the cafeteria for two months, so everyone needs to bring their jackets and a good pair of shoes that could easily be used in the snow, because we’re doing some stuff outside! This will wake you all up better than eating a lot of sugar, so be ready for it. BE PREPARED for the outdoors, especially as Mr. Blincow’s talking about First-Aid. We hope to see you all there-
