monday 21st

hello scouts
disclaimer: the plan may have changed form what it was earlier.

this email is directed to people who have a part in the upcoming meeting. For starters, Jack would you mind doing flag calling? we are in need of a caller. Mr. Blincow could you ask Braden to grab tents form the scout locker. Owen, For the group instruction, would you please come up with a speech about what goes into a good menu. I was thinking about you talking about my plate and maybe throw out some ideas for menu items. Gabriel can you help instuct people on how to set up a tent correctly with guide lines? Matthew are you still able to help teach people how to set up dinning flies. Kai could you please help with alternate shelters? I can and will try to instruct the patrol leaders on how to handle the game Blindfolded tent set up.

Court of honor tonight in the time of COVID

Good evening Troop,

We are excited to celebrate our FIRST Court of Honor this year! We will start at 6pm TONIGHT at Vadnais Sucker Lake Regional Park

The Masters of Ceremony have worked hard to design a program that will recognize our scouts' accomplishments in these unprecedented times while keeping us all safe and healthy.

We are modelling this on the Music in the Park that several cities have done and our Campout where we camped by patrol.
The keys are keeping our distance and keeping groups from mingling.

To that end, We as that you observe the following:
1) If you have symptoms or were potentially exposed, Please do NOT attend. We'll miss you but it's the responsible thing to do
2) Masks are Mandatory
3) SeatingBy Patrol in Family groups: Bring a chair, we're spreading out. We ask that each family sit together and that you leave 6 - 10 feet between family groups.
The Patrols Family groups will be seated separately and spread out. This may cause some issues with reading the slides, but you know what they say, listen to the presenter, don't read the slide anyway.
The B-P (1st years) and Cowboy (6+ Years) Patrols and their families will sit Stage Left near the playground.
The Some Scouts (2-3rd years) Patrol and their families will sit in the Middle near the parking lot / sidewalk
The Ball Patrol Scouts (4-5 years) and their families will sit Stage Right
4) Food and Drink (Why wasn't this first, right?)
We are NOT providing drinks. Please bring your own beverage
Snacks Mrs. Higley and Mrs. Arndt have arranged for individually wrapped treats at the end. Please pick them up individually when you pick up your awards.
5) Awards: Awards will be arranged on the tables by patrol. When released, please wait for your patrol's turn to be called and then go up individually and pick up your awards.

THANK you for your incredible Scout Spirit and helping all of us to stay safe

Mr. Blincow

Scouts for Hire opportunity - Loftus Garage cleaning - 09/20 4p

On Sunday September 20 at 4 pm we will be having a a scouts for hire event at Mr. Loftus’s house. Mr. Loftus just had his garage reroofed and he needs help taking everything out of the garage attic fire brigade style, cleaning out the debris, and then putting it back. Scouts for hire is a free will offering donation that gets split evenly amongst the people who work at according to the time they put in. This is a great way to earn money for High adventure trips or to pay for your Scouting.

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084ba5ac2ca13-loftus1

Keep an eye out for another scouts for hire opportunity coming in early October.

Thanks so much guys,

Things for everyone to bring are clothes you don’t especially like, as they WILL get burs on them or get muddy. Wear your class B, but be prepared to take it off.
Adults bring camping chairs as I have a special job for you.
Also bring bug spray, as we don’t want anyone to get murdered by mosquitoes.

Please Return Troop Merit badge books and camping gear

Hello Scouts, Scouters and Parents!
I am asking all to please look through your book shelves, Under your beds ;) for any mertit badge books! We have many missing from our library. The troop has purchased several over the last few years, (many are the eagle required). We would like to keep this an option for all current and future scouts!
We had 28 scouts attend Tomahawk the first week of August. If you used any scouting gear please bring it to the meeting on Monday at Mr Blincows.! I you have happened to clean out your garage during Covid and have found any other equipment from previous camp out....Tarps, Tents, Cooler oct please bring those along too! ( we seem to be missing all our tarp. The last time they were used was at the cave campout in Nov. 2019...
Thank you for checking. It truly makes scouting affordable for all when we keep cost down and don't have to purchase new supplies!

Looking forward to another great year of scouting growth in 2020. We are on track in Nomahawk was any indication!

Reminder, at the last Parent meeting Court of Honor was changed to Sept 14th. Stay tuned for more details!!!

Yours in scouting,

Anne Moe

NOMAHAWK Camp Information: Please read if attending

Hello Scouts Scouters and Parents
It's almost time for NOMAHAWK! Check your signup at the end and please read all of this

COVID considerations We are going to have the most fun and adventurous camp we can in a SAFE manner. We will be following the Northern Star Council camp model and camping in Patrol sites and doing activities as patrols. There will be limited, brief, and distant interaction between specific members of different patrols and with merit badge counselors not camping in the patrol campsites. These will be the exception rather than the norm which will feel different to our scouts. We're going to make the best of the situation and still find epic adventure! We will be wearing masks whenever closer than 6 feet, indoors, in vehicles, or with people outside our patrols. We will be sanitizing, wearing masks, and gloves to cook and handle food
Screening and health forms] We WILL be screening first thing Saturday morning. We will ask you to initial the screening documents and health forms

Timing: Aug 01 8AM: Pre camp health screening in parking lot. Parents initial Health Forms, COVID screening, COVID at Risk form.
8AM - 10AM: Scouts organize and split gear by patrols, pack troop gear in trailers (personal gear can stay with parents)
Brownsea scouts will be doing pack checks. you can find the packing resource on our http://www.scouting626.com/camping page. Pay attention to the 10 essentials and first aid kit contents.
10 AM: Parents will transport their own scouts, gear, and bike to Fred C Anderson Scout Camp: 186 Andersen Scout Camp Rd, Houlton, WI 54082
Return: We plan to return Thursday Aug 06 around 5pm and will then unpack and organize gear. Your scout should be ready to leave by 6pm. They will likely have troop gear to clean and return.

Additional things to bring:
3 masks per scout
Mess Kit - We will be very vigilant about sanitizing and washing dishes and use sterimine as our rinse step.
A bar of soap, and wash cloth (We do NOT have showers but will have a tarped off area to use a 5 gallon bucket of water and sponge bathe)
individual hand sanitizer
individual bug spray
individual sunscreen
A Bike and Helmet
1-2 water bottles
A Camping Chair
Cards (Magic, playing) and games which can be played without sharing pieces.
Lawn Games. Bags, Golf Ball Ladder Toss, horseshoes, etc.

Advancement Nomhawk will be a scout directed advancement where the troop will have adult counselors available but it is the Scout's responsibility to communicate and complete requirements.

What you said you're doing: - Please contact Mr. Blincow ASAP if something looks off

Ice packs for our trip. and other needs

Hello Parents and Scouters
I am asking if we can have parents bring 1-2 2 liter bottles, or gallon jugs frozen to pack coolers. We will be brings a freezer to refreeze containers to help keep our food cold at 4 sites!
Please let me know if you are able to freeze jugs for the troop.

If you have a smaller cooler that we could use to send on adventures for lunches please let me know; They could be soft sided as well. They should be able to hold 12-15 sandwiches :)

If someone has a screen tent we could borrow for medications that would be awesome as well.

We are encouraging scouts to bring a chair to scouts will have a place to sit while social distancing.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

Sincerely,

Anne Moe

Our Condolences. Mrs. Rafter's Father passed away

Dear scouts and families,

Mrs. Rafter's Dad, Al Sopinski passed away in the hospital on June 20th. Al had a twinkle in his eye and it was easy to see where Mrs. Rafter got her sense of humor, love of scouting, strong will, and dedication to others.

Due to Covid, Funeral arrangements and Interment will be delayed and we will forward an announcement when the family is able to make arrangements.

Cards can be sent care of the family at
Rafter
1801 5th Street NW
New Brighton, MN 55112

A Scout is Cheerful: Mrs. Rafter's Birthday is Friday 06/26 (What a coincidence). I'm sure that she would love to have happy birthday wishes, cheerful cards, and other notes from her scouting family!

Parent/ Committee mtg 9626 6/22/20 @ 730 pm

Hello Parents and Scouters

Please join us for our parent/committee meeting on Monday 6/20/20 at 730 pm. Zoom meeting link; https://zoom.us/j/3729151549?pwd=UWpXZnl6ZVN4ZUZNUHpobHdBM1QrZz09

PLC will meet in person at Mr. Blincow’s at 630

We will be discussing the following items
• Summer Plans
o Adult leadership needs for age-based patrols to make it work
o Youth Protection training needed for these leaders/helpers- this can be done through the BSA web page (https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/)
• Recharter fees- Due Sept 1st
o Counsel fees $180 (this has been set by the Counsel and will be paid on line by each family)
 Friends of Scout (voluntary contributions) goal was not met for this year and troop will now pay all awards and rank advancement. Moving forward this program has been removed and replaced with the flat fee above. $20.00 from the flat fee will go into a troop fund for awards.
o Troop fees $70 1st scout/$35 each additional scout this will be paid directly to the troop (our previous rate was $67 for 1st scout/$35 each additional-this rate had not changed for many years)
 This fee covers equipment, merit badge materials as needed, gas for campouts and subsidizes adult leaders cost who attend the campouts.
 It has previously covered adult leader recharter fees, but we are accepting if leaders wish to cover their costs to help reduce troop overhead.
 This fee is set by the previous year’s wreath sales/fundraisers. It will be important for us to keep our cost down that every scout to sell wreaths; more to come in the near future on wreath sales.

It is vital to our program that we have as many parents that can. It will take the village to keep scouting going.
Also, please remember we are still looking for a new Scout Master starting June of 2021. If you have any interest, please reach out to Mr. Blincow. I would hate to see such a successful troop disperse due to lack of leadership….
We will also be looking for a new Crew leader. Mr. Nussbaum has gone above and beyond in serving our troop as a Crew leader since his role as Scoutmaster. Thank you for your Service Gary! We have prospered with your commitment to our troop!
If there is a position you are interested in, please reach out to myself for Committee positions, or Karen or Paul for Scout facing positions. Recruit your friends and fellow parents to ensure the success of this awesome program. Troop 626 has been blessed by many continuing to give to scouting; lets continue the tradition and opportunity for our youth!
The BSA suggests that positions are not held for more than 3 years in each position. This to make sure that the parents are committed to the success of their youth. Thank you for the for your reflection to see if a position in the troop is right for you. Every worthy cause requires a time commitment to ensure success.

Sincerely,
Anne Moe

Apology and Summer Scouting Plans

Hello Parents, Scouts and Scouters.

It is with mixed emotions I am writing to our troop.
After reviewing our parent survey and watching the Tomahawk videos for their plan for this year, Troop 9626 has decided not to attend Tomahawk this year. This decision was not made lightly. We know how much growth our Scouts and Scouter get out of attending and celebrating our traditions at Tomahawk!
BUT…… we think we have come up with a way to meet most scouts/parents comfort levels (see attached doc)
By listening to your concerns and suggestions through the survey!
We also saw that our troop was still interested in participating in scouting during the week we were supposed to be at Tomahawk. We are exploring our options for the troop still engage in fun activities during the week we were scheduled for Tomahawk. The price for this week will NOT exceed the cost of Tomahawk. We are looking at Day activities within driving distance so if we are not able to camp we can return home same day.
We also will be moving to a Bimonthly meeting schedule for the summer. (Scout book and Google have been updated to reflect the changes) Scouts in leadership positions may be asked to attend meetings a little more frequently to ensure the success of our troop.
If you have an interest in overseeing day trips/possible overnight camping in groups of 10 or less please reach out to Mr. Blincow so we can connect you with an age-based patrol. In order for this new way to work we will need at least 2 YPT trained adults for each age group.
If you have not completed it you can do it here. https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/ (cut and paste link). We look forward to hearing from you and for you to share your enthusiasm with the scouts!
My sincerest apologies as I had thought I sent this last week! Thank you for your patiences.

Please help us plan the summer: Troop Comfort level assessment reminder

Greetings! We had an amazing level of feedback as 16 families have responded in less than 24 hours. but we still need YOUR input. (If you've already filled it out, THANK you, no need to do so again)

I know that there is a lot of uncertainty right now. This survey should help us plan for our summer scouting activities. As more information becomes available we may need to reassess where we are at again.
We want scouting to be scout lead, but this still requires parent participation, leadership, and guidance. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us

Greetings!
We really need YOU to attend our Parent meeting this Wednesday where we, as the families that make up this troop will discuss What's up with Scouting in these times?!
With the Governor's announcement we suspect that many families will be gathering in small groups with their close friends so we're moving our meeting to Wednesday

Things we need to discuss (some may be sensitive so we're happy to meet privately)
How are things going with your scout? your family? you?
What are your expectations of us?
How has scouting been going? What should we Stop? What should we Start? What should we Continue?
What is your comfort level with in person scouting when that opportunity opens up?
What does Scout Camping look like now?
What are your thoughts around Tomahawk in August?
Do you have concerns?Financial? Medical? Social? etc?
What can you do to help? How can we help make that less intimidating and easier?

Greetings!

How are things going with your scout? your family? you?
What are your expectations of us?
How has scouting been going? What should we Stop? What should we Start? What should we Continue?
Wha t is your comfort level with in person scouting when that opportunity opens up?
What does Scout Camping look like now?
What are your thoughts around Tomahawk in August?
Do you have concerns?Financial? Medical? Social? etc?
What can you do to help? How can we help make that less intimidating and easier?

Tomahawk Update and Committee Meeting discussion tonight focusing on camping this summer

Good morning Scouters and Parents!

We are looking forward to seeing you at tonight’s adult Committee Meeting beginning at 1930 hrs. following the PLC.

As Mrs. Moe outlined in her email, we would like to discuss what the camping landscape looks like this summer. For Tomahawk specifically, the latest guidance we have is from May 21st. In a nutshell, the program is changing and continues to evolve given COVID-19 guidance and recommendations for operating youth camps. Highlights below; link to original document at bottom. We expect new guidance from Tomahawk following Gov. Walz updates later this week, hopefully.

--- Tomahawk closed until July 5
--- Once it opens, campsites are to be split into individual sections housing no more than 10 participants (8 youth, 2 adults, most likely)
--- Tomahawk is encouraging all participants to either tent with a member of their household or by themselves.
--- Camp schedule changed to Sunday to Saturday vice Saturday to Saturday to allow time for cleaning and sanitation of camp
--- No large assemblies or campfires (replaced with unit-level versions in the troop campsite)
--- ***Older Scout Programs and Merit Badge offerings are being re-worked and re-defined by the Tomahawk staff.*** New guidance is expected on May 29th.
--- Dining Hall closed; all cooking to be done in camp
--- Tomahawk is asking those with serious underlying medical conditions as outlined by thge CDC to not attend camp for their own safety this summer.

Date change for PLC and Committee MTG to next WED 5/27/20 PLEASE READ 9626

Hello Scouts, Scouters and Parents

We were hoping to have more information for the summer at this meeting, but the American camping association and the YMCA were delayed a few days in getting their recommendations out for Summer camping. Tomahawk and Northern Star Counsel was depending on their recommendation to plan for their summer camping plans.

We would like to move our meetings out until we hear from Tomahawk about their plans and the recommendation for camping this summer.

We will move the PLC to 630 on WEDNESDAY 5/27 and the committee meeting to 730 to follow.
We really would like to have every parent attend this committee meeting. How you feel about these guidelines and your comfort level with them will impact how we do scouting this summer.
There was also a letter sent from North Star Council regarding camping this summer. All group camping will be suspended until at least July 5th.

Your opinion and involvement matter to the success of our troop. We look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday!

Adults, please email me if you plan to attend amoexx2@gmail.com

Thank you!

Anne Moe,
Committee Chair

Scoutmaster Challenge – Heritage Cooking

Hello, Scouts and Scout Families. Now that our Troop Virtual Campout is complete, I have a new Scoutmaster Challenge for you. It involves cooking with your Family.

I challenge Scouts to learn to cook a Family “Heritage” or Favorite meal. What I mean by Heritage dish is a recipe that has been passed down through generations, perhaps even from back before your families came to the U.S. Whatever meal that is a family favorite will do. Learn about the recipe, its ingredients and maybe what the dish means or represents to your family. Help shop for those ingredients and then help prepare that meal for your family. Send photos of the meal’s preparation and the final results, just like you have been doing for the other Scoutmaster challenges and we will post them to Facebook and Instagram.

Good Luck and Bon Appetit!

Mr. Bailey on behalf of Scoutmaster Blincow

Camping outside is really something we want to encourage this weekend however we understand there are obstacles for some. But this is something different so tent camping may be traded for a pillow fort or cardboard box fort if thats what need to happen to get as close to camping as we can.

Yes we are asking that you guys cook three meals a day but with the supervision of YOUR PARENTS to do so safely.
Paren ts this next part is for you. We are still trying to be scout led while we are apart so please when input and guidance is needed do give it but let the scout do as much as he or she can.
There will be prizes for competitions littered throughout out the day. But the whole goal of this weekend is scout spirit so come with a positive attitude and the will to try your best.

I look forward to seeing all of your faces in little boxes this weekend.

Thanks guys,

Matthew Higley

Merit Badges tonight, Class B's and Adults needed in the audience

Good evening!
IT'S CLASS B SEASON! First, the important stuff: Isaac has decreed it Class B T-Shirt Season!

ADULTS NEEDED TONIGHT: can you stick around during the meeting and attend on a device separate from your scout to help with 2 deep leadership in all the rooms.

MERIT BADGES: You may be wondering about the FOUR Merit badge offerings tonight ... The idea is that if you already have one of them, you could work on one of the others. So, if you started on Cit Comm last time, you would continue that until done and then move on. We plan to offer these ongoing until most scouts have had an opportunity to work on them.
What if I want to work ahead? What if I already have stuff done? GREAT! contact the counselor and set up time to review outside of meetings!

Eagle MB Challenge for the Cowboy Patrol

Hello, Cowboy patrol. Scouting continues, even with Social Distancing. Please consider taking the time to join the Virtual Troop meetings and show your support for our new youth leadership. There are a number of Eagle required MBs being offered at the meetings. If you have not started any of those that are being offered, I encourage you to begin them. If you have started them, you can make arrangements to schedule web meetings to review your progress with the counselors outside of meetings to get them signed off on.

May Eagle Coach challenge – Mr. Blincow has been challenging Scouts while in our stay at home order and I have a challenge specifically for your patrol. Many of you have started but not completed multiple Eagle MBs over the years. My challenge for you is to create a log or spreadsheet with a comprehensive list of Eagle MBs you have started and which requirements you still need to complete. Find all your Blue Cards or look at what is posted in Scoutbook for you. Double check those recorded requirements with any workbooks you have with work you’ve completed, but haven’t gotten sign off on. Make note of MBs you’ve started, but no longer have a Blue Card for and may need to review with a counselor to receive credit for prior work. The goal is to develop a checklist of items you can work on that consolidates the effort into one place. For items you need to complete, make notes for the more significant items that may have a time component or will require more effort than others. The idea is that this is a ready made checklist for you to prioritize your effort this spring and summer and to help communicate with us as Eagle Coaches. When you finish your list, please share it with your parents and your leaders.

Summer backup plans: Those who were heading to NOAC this summer have already had that cancellation announcement. We will know more about Philmont and Tomahawk, likely by the end of the month. But, there may be a ways for smaller, patrol sized, groups to be able to get out and camp this summer. Remember, this is your program. If you are interested in getting together and having your own adventure, communicate with one another come up with an idea. We will do our best as parents and leaders to help you make it happen. You have a number of resources available and enthusiastic leaders who can help you plan and carry out your goals.

I hope to see you at tonight’s meeting. Isaac Moe (SPL) and Matthew Higley (ASPL), would welcome your support.

Monday 5/4/20

Hello scouters,
after we received the news about the shelter in place order I thought we could all use some uplifting news, and whats better then MORE merit badges to earn. Before I hear groans I will remind you about your power in the troop to tell your patrol leaders what you want to do in the future. So, Monday we will have a surprise appearance by 3 of your leaders, Mr. Blincow who will be performing Camping MB, Mrs. Hashmi informing us of Citizenship in the World, and Mr. Donato discussing Nation. Also for those of you looking for your regularly scheduled Cit in the Community Mrs. Moe will be hosting that MB as well.
Now a short message from each regarding the price of entry. (pre-reqs)

I would like you to come prepared and with the following questions in mind.
What does your patrol want in t he following meetings?
How do you think we should do a virtual campout? What requirements can you do?
Should we as a troop inform the new OA members now or at Tomahawk?
Come prepared by bringing your patrol leaders hand book and binder. Please take notes and be engaged.

Older Scout and High Adventure Programs sign-up reminder

Just a reminder that tomorrow at noon the first registration window will close for Older Scout and High Adventure Programs. If you are interested in any of these programs, please sign up ASAP. We have only 5 scouts signed up for these programs as of this writing.

George Franklin Eagle Project - Volunteers Needed

My name is George Franklin, a Life scout looking for six volunteers for my Eagle Scout Project. Do not worry if leaving the house is an issue, as this project be done at your house (details further down the email). Please take some time to read this email and consider volunteering your time to my project.

What is my project?

In our community, police sometimes must visit a home to respond to a domestic disturbance. Sometimes this happens with young children in the home. Police find it helpful to give something to those children because they may be shocked or frightened. For my Eagle Scout project, I will lead six scouts to make a total of 300 individual relief bags that boys and girls can receive to tend to this need.

Many soothing and practical items for the children will go into these bags. The bags contain mini beach balls, coloring books, beanie babies, and many more comforting items. These bags will be donated and delivered to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

How do I volunteer?

All of my project materials are placed in six different bins, each bin containing 50 bags, not yet made. A volunteer will be asked to receive one of these bins and put together the unmade 50 bags. An instruction list is attached on the outside of the bin. This list contains a step by step guide of how to put the bags together. See photos of the materials inside of the bins and bins themselves attached.

How can I Sign up?

Volunteers will be asked to receive one of these bins and assemble them at their homes. I have created a signup genius, which is first-come, first-serve. This signup genius is active, so make sure to sign up fast before all six spots are taken.

This signup genius will ask which day, time and place you would like to receive a bin, as well as give back the completed bin. Please request a date to receive this project before or on April 17th, and give back this project before or on April 24th.

Safety Concerns?

I have left my project bins to sit in the garage for the past three days (killing the virus if it exists).

Wear gloves whenever touching the bins, I will deliver them without the chance of contamination. The volunteers will also be asked to wear gloves when assembling the bags (gloves are taped onto the outside of the bins).

Final remarks

Please do not hesitate to email me for questions and I will get back to you within the day: George.franklin@tgeagle.org
